Generally, one nostril is dominant over the other at any given time and the breath will be felt to flow more freely through the dominant nostril. The dominant nostril alternates rhythmically every 1h30 to 2h30. If you can notice which nostril is dominant for you, you can know which qualities are dominant in your psyche.

Left nostril: the energy is guided by the right hemisphere of the brain and the left side of the body. It carries a cooling, relaxing, lunar energy. Gives you self-endurance, calmness, empathy, sensitivity, synthesis.

Right nostril: the energy is guided by the left hemisphere of the brain and the right side of the body. It carries a warming, energising, solar energy. Gives you a clear focused mind, vigour, alertness, will power, concentration, readiness for action.
